Idaho is a state in the northwestern region of the United States. It borders the state of Montana to the east and northeast, Wyoming to the east, Nevada and Utah to the south, and Washington and Oregon to the west. To the north, it shares a small portion of the Canadian border with the province of British Columbia. With a population of approximately 1.7 million and an area of 83,569 square miles (216,440 km²), Idaho is the 14th largest, the 12th least populous and the 7th least densely populated of the 50 U.S. states. The state's capital and largest city is Boise. Idaho prior to European settlement was inhabited by Native American peoples, some of whom still live in the area. In the early 19th century, Idaho was considered part of the Oregon Country, an area disputed between the U.S. and the United Kingdom. It officially became U.S. territory with the signing of the Oregon Treaty of 1846, but a separate Idaho Territory was not organized until 1863, instead being included for periods in Oregon Territory and Washington Territory. Idaho was eventually admitted to the Union on July 3, 1890, becoming the 43rd state. Forming part of the Pacific Northwest (and the associated Cascadia bioregion), Idaho is divided into several distinct geographic and climatic regions.

As shown in the Idaho location map that Idaho is located in the north-west region of the US. Idaho US is the 43rd state admitted in the year 1890. The state shares boundary with Washington in the north-west, Oregon in the west, in the south two states share their boundaries i.e. Nevada and Utah, and in the eastern side Wyoming and Montana share their boundaries with Idaho. However, as you can clearly visualize on the Idaho state map that its thin and pointed strip of northern part shares international boundary with Canada.

Likewise, the state has landlocked position with two major rivers i.e. Columbia River, and Snake River that supply sufficient water to the Idaho state US. There is very much interesting fact about the state i.e. it has been nicknamed as the Gem State because of almost every known gem has been found here. Surprisingly, Idaho state is one of two places in the entire world where star garnets found; the other place is Himalaya Mountains in Asia. In addition, it is the only place in the world where six pointed star garnets have been found.

The state has many places of attractions where tourists enjoy a lot; the state has several national parks, museums, monuments, and historic sites. However, the given map of Idaho state is very helpful for all purposes because it is detailed Idaho map. On the Idaho map US, you can see the all major cities including the capital city Boise, highways, railways, and other smaller towns.

Coeur d'Alene Lake - which measures 25 miles in length - is a lovely place to rent some kayaks or standup paddleboards and just relax. Vacation rentals and resorts are also on offer, and the beach and activities at Indian Point Park are especially fun.

Boise became the capital of the territory of Idaho in 1864. Approximately 228,900 people live there. In Boise, it's a law that "Residents may not fish from a giraffe’s back."

In the state's north, the relatively isolated Idaho Panhandle is closely linked with Eastern Washington, with which it shares the Pacific Time Zone – the rest of the state uses the Mountain Time Zone. The state's south includes the Snake River Plain (which has most of the population and agricultural land), while the south-east incorporates part of the Great Basin. Idaho is quite mountainous, and contains several stretches of the Rocky Mountains. The United States Forest Service holds about 38% of Idaho's land, the most of any state. Industries significant for the state economy include manufacturing, agriculture, mining, forestry, and tourism. A number of science and technology firms are either headquartered in Idaho or have factories there, and the state also contains the Idaho National Laboratory, which is the country's largest Department of Energy facility. Idaho's agricultural sector supplies many products, but the state is best known for its potato crop, which comprises around one-third of the nationwide yield. The official state nickname is the "Gem State", which references Idaho's natural beauty.

Idaho is known under different nicknames; aka Gem State, or Gem of the Mountains, or Little Ida, or Spud State and detailed official information about Idaho can be found on the homepage at

Our Comfort Index uses a combination of afternoon summer temperature and humidity to closely predict the effect that the humidity will have on people.

This is a better indicator than the average, because the median is not changed as much by a few unusually high or low values. The property tax rate of $9.47 shown here is the rate per $1,000 of home value. If for simplification for example the tax rate is $14.00 and the home value is $250,000, the property tax would be $14.00 x ($250,000/1000), or $3500. This is the 'effective' tax rate.
